The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has named Steven Holl Architects has recently completed the hybrid complex bound to Beijing the recipient of “Best Tall Building” in Asia and Australia award for 2009. Annually The CTBUH recognizes one large building outstanding of each of the four geographic regions: Americas, Asia and Australia, Europe and the Middle East and Africa. The “Best Tall Building General” will be chosen These four recipients at the dinner awards ceremony on October 23 during the Conference CTBUH Chicago 2009.

The 220,000 square meter complex hybrid bound which won the 2009 prize consists of eight towers linked by a ring of eight sky bridges, housing a variety of public functions. The complex is adjacent to the old city area of Beijing. Going against current trends of urban development in China, the complex forms a new twenty-first century, urban space porous, welcoming and open to the public on all sides. In addition to more than 750 apartments, the complex includes public facilities, commercial and recreational as well as a hotel and school. With SiteLines around, on and through layers of multi-faceted country, this “city within a city” as one of its central aims the notion of public space in an urban environment, and can support all activities and programs for the life of more than 2,500 inhabitants.
